I have been working with a brand new trio called ‘On Topic’. It’s a collaborative effort from guitarist Kim Ratcliffe, bassist Brad Cheeseman, and myself. It all start about 5 months ago with a simple jam session at Kim Ratcliffe’s house and before we knew it we were in Chalet studios recording out first CD. The recording is finished and we are working on the art work in preparation for release. Make sure to like our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ontopictrio/) and check in as we will announce when the music will be ready to purchase. You can also find us on Sound cloud (https://soundcloud.com/ontopictrio) where you can download some of that new CD for free!<a href=”http://aubreydayle.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/ON-TOPIC-@-MUSIDEUM-3.jpg”><img class=”alignright size-medium wp-image-1284″ alt=”ON TOPIC @ MUSIDEUM 3″ src=”http://aubreydayle.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/ON-TOPIC-@-MUSIDEUM-3-300×193.jpg” width=”351″ height=”225″ /></a>
Last night we played a show at Musideum in Toronto. It was a particularly special night in that the movie ‘Stay Aubrey’ (<b>http://tinyurl.com/lnrsoa9</b>) was shown before our set. This ‘Movie and a show’ concept was something that I wanted to do ever since the movie premiered at TIFF Bell Lightbox last year. At that premier, Vladimir Kabelik, the director of the movie, thought it would a great idea if I were to play right after the film. I was able to test that approach last night and was extremely effective. The great Toronto musician and composer Donald Quan (also the owner of Musideum) told me that movie was great and satisfying alone and when I got up and played with On Topic it made the experience even better. My goal is to do a whole tour with this concept.
My good friend Steáfán Hannigan filmed the performance last night and Donald Quan made a multi-track recording as well. We will have some very cool footage of the evening for you all to check out soon. I am extremely excited about the group. Kim and Brad are incredible musicians and I feel that we are on to something that has great potential. Onward and upward!
